Now I am back up and running permanently. The instructions for setting up your printer on macOS versions 10.7.5 through 10.13.6 are below. To complete the connection, a software installation is necessary. The connection between the printer and the wireless router is not yet complete. Clicked print on a document and there it printed instantly. Now, the printer is ready to connect to a wireless network.
If your printer doesnt display, search for it by name in the search field. I've just downloaded Canon UFR II Printer Driver v2.43 for Macintosh Mac OS X 10.5.8 to 10.8.x from the Canon Global download centre to install on my recently acquired MacBook and after download up pops a dialogue box saying 'The following disk images couldnt be opened. From the list of printers, select yours and click Add. Select the Add button and then click Default. I then added the printer again using the plus sign button at the bottom of the Printers and Scanners screen, and waited for it to detect the wireless printer on its own. To add your printer to your Macs printer list, go to the Apple menu then click System Preferences and then Printers & Scanners. (I think you can simply delete the one printer as well, but I didn't seem to have luck with that option fixing my problem.) After the reset, I used the printer's control panel to print a network configuration page to verify it was properly configured to my wireless network, which it was. I had multiple printers set up for work and home. Keep in mind this will remove ALL PRINTERS, not just the one you are having trouble with. Then in the list of Printers, I right-clicked and chose "Reset Printing System." It warns you will lose all the printers and Queues. RESOLVED! I went into System Preferences>Printers and Scanners.
